1. How can I enter an event?
To enter your event for consideration in New Times and the Sun’s shared Central Coast community calendar, visit this submission link and follow the steps listed:
https://posting.newtimesslo.com/sanluisobispo/Events/AddEvent
2. Why isn’t my event showing yet?
Your event may still be waiting in line behind other events for approval (if you submit your event and follow our weekly deadline rules, you should see your event online at least within 10 days of your event date. If your event occurs more than 10 days away from the day you’re checking to see if it’s been approved, it’s most likely still in line for approval).
You may have missed the deadline for inclusion (You should submit your event at least two weeks before it’s scheduled. The deadline for each week’s edition is the Thursday prior to the publication date. Events submitted too close to their occurrence and/or past our deadlines are not eligible for the calendar. We publish on Thursdays, so some events require earlier submission times than others. For example, an event happening next Monday would be eligible for this week’s issue. To meet our deadline, you should have submitted the event by last Thursday.
3. What’s the best way to get my event featured in the paper as a Hot Date/Hot Stuff?
While we can’t guarantee any event will get featured in the paper as a Hot Date/Hot Stuff, including a high resolution photo or image in your event submissions increases the likelihood that your event will get featured. This could include paintings or other artworks, but flyers or event posters with text are not considered. You can also email photos and images to calendar@newtimesslo.com or calendar@santamariasun.com.
4. What’s the deadline to make the paper calendar?
The deadline for each week’s edition is the Thursday prior to the publication date. And each published edition includes events within a 10-day span starting on the publication date. Submitting within our deadlines means that your event is eligible for this week’s issue, but it doesn’t guarantee your event a spot in the paper.
5. Helpful tips:
- Be sure to proofread your text before submitting (doublecheck every detail; time; location; website or contact info). Once an event is submitted, you can’t make changes to it and we may not be able to make edits/corrections/changes.
- Include awesome photos! We’re always on the hunt for potential Hot Dates/ Hot Stuff highlights, and it’s a cool way to get your event some extra exposure.
- Submit early! At least two weeks prior to your event’s date.
