The San Luis Obispo County District Attorney’s office announced on April 20 that Thomas Nolan Yanaga will stand trial for murder.
Yanaga is alleged to have shot and killed Marshall Chandler Savoy on March 14 at Yanaga’s Paso Robles home. After the preliminary hearing phase concluded on April 20, Superior Court Judge John Trice found that enough evidence existed to move forward with the charges, according to Assistant District Attorney Lee Cunningham. If Yanaga is found guilty, the murder charge and the use of a firearm in the murder can carry a life sentence
Yanaga was released from the San Luis Obispo County Jail after posting a $1 million bail on April 8. Seven days later, he was arrested in Kings County on suspicion of attempted murder. According to Cunningham, Yanaga is suspected to have been involved with two other people there in a shooting that injured another person. While Yanaga didn’t discharge the firearm in that alleged incident, he was arrested on suspicion of being involved. Yanaga was returned to SLO County over the weekend before his April 20 court date. He will be arraigned on May 4 and is currently being held without bail.
At some point, Yanaga will be returned to Kings County to face attempted murder charges, Cunningham said.
