The Central Coast Regional Water Quality Control Board handed out a set of fines to four different groups earlier this month.
The city of San Luis Obispo received a fine of $20,000 for the Aug. 2 sewer leakage. A glitch in the city's sewer system caused 30,000-40,000 gallons of effluent to flow down SLO Creek.
The San Simeon Community Services District received a penalty of $24,000 for violating its discharge permit.
California Men's Colony (CMC) received a penalty of $33,000 for violating its permit when it discharged untreated wastewater into Chorro Creek. A new sewer system is under construction at the CMC.
The Monarch Grove Homeowners Association was fined $75,000 for violating its wastewater discharge permit. $40,000 of the fine will be suspended by the board if the homeowners' association complies with its permit.
