Watch your tools at Home Depot

I work for a plumbing contractor in San Luis Obispo. Recently one of our technicians was at The Home Depot in San Luis Obispo and had $2,000 worth of tools stolen from the back of his truck while he was shopping for job materials. He was parked on the east side of the store, near the contractors’ loading area.
Unfortunately The Home Depot does not have a camera aimed at that section of the parking lot, so there is no hope of finding the thieves. The manager did tell me that he requested a security camera to be installed for that section of the parking lot, but that was a month ago.

In speaking with the police department, they mentioned that they receive three to four calls a week for the same problem of theft in the Home Depot parking lot.

If you are parked on the far east side of the parking lot and have tools in your truck, put them in a locked tool box or have someone stay with the truck while you shop. If you see any activity that looks suspicious, please alert the store to page the owner of the truck. You can also copy down the license plate number and leave a note for the owner of the truck.

I had no idea that this kind of activity was taking place in our “little town. I hope this letter can save someone the grief that my technician is now dealing with.
