The 67th Annual Pismo Beach Clam Festival is just around the corner

Just when we thought summer was over, the heat has come back, and the festivities are still happening along the coast. On the weekend of Oct. 18, Pismo Beach is kicking off its 67th annual Clam Festival.

Clams have always made me think of Alice in Wonderland when all the kid clams are crying when they realize they’re about to be made into a meal. But this festival has been around since 1946, and doesn’t involve kids crying, hopefully. 


Aside from all things fall and winter-related, it could be one last weekend of a little fun-in-the-sun with the family.

Take a break from all pumpkin-related things and head to the beach. The weekend will entail a parade, a local chowder contest, surf contest, food, music and entertainment, and a clam dig for kids under 11.

Heck, why not pay the babysitter a little extra to go with you, not just for watching the kids, but to be your designated driver so you can partake in the beer and wine garden, and pier pub that will be open Saturday and Sunday?

There is a small cost for the weekend if you want to enjoy the wine and chowder. The three-day VIP pass is $50, and includes wine, chowder, and clambake. And the two-day wine and chowder pass is $30.

So grab the kids, the babysitter or nannie, and don’t forget the sunscreen, and head on down to Pismo for the Clam Festival!

I just hope the Walrus and the Carpenter don’t show up!
