Thanks for the memories

San Luis Obispo

Thank you for the wonderful article on the Cal Poly Shakespeare Press Museum (“Adventures in negative space,” March 19). As my wife and I prepare to celebrate our 20-year wedding anniversary next month, your article brought back many fond memories. Two decades ago, my then-fiancée, who was a graphics major, and I, a history major, were preparing for our wedding as well as finals, senior projects, and job interviews. As members of the Shakespeare Press Museum club, we had access to the presses and decided to slow things down, spend some precious time together and hand-print all of our wedding stationery. My wife even created a custom engraving of two wedding bands that we used on the invitations. We spent many hours in this unique, hands-on, working museum, setting the type, inking the presses, turning the cranks, and one piece at a time, printing our truly one-of-a kind wedding stationery. In a world that increasingly is trying to accelerate the pace of our lives, we learned some important life lessons about the value of sometimes slowing things down. Thank you again for highlighting this superb, Central Coast working museum.
