In April, seven Congress members from southwestern states demanded the president immediately increase Mexican border security, stating “violence continues increasing at a alarming rate.” Senator McCain echoed their tune, stating border violence “is the worst I have ever seen.”

These statements contradict the facts.

According to the U.S. Border Patrol, violent crime this side of the border has fallen by more than 30 percent during the past 20 years.
