Stop the repression

A deep relationship exists between domestic spying by the government and the plans and calls for yet another war in the Middle East. Like every repressive police state law and executive "security" policy down through U.S. history, the Patriot Acts I and II and the Homeland Security Act ended up being used against popular movements and to keep tabs on activists, especially those protesting barely concealed imperial wars of conquest and plunder, which are always sold as "wars for democracy, freedom, liberty, and defense of the homeland"—translate to wars for oil and geopolitical power positioning (empire).

A couple of years ago, numerous anti-war activists were arrested by the FBI and indicted by a federal grand jury on trumped-up charges of "aiding and abetting terrorism." Evidence has shown that the Occupy movement was subtly and "secretly" broken up under the direction and urging of Obama's Homeland Security Department. Strikes by longshoremen have been threatened with military force for supposedly violating "national security." Does anyone really believe that the recently uncovered extent of NSA phone call and Internet spying is only aimed at finding terrorist plots? If so, I have oceanfront property to sell you cheap in eastern Iowa.

Both the Dempublican and Republicrat parties are guilty of these kinds of attacks. Indeed, repression of popular, anti-imperial, progressive movements is one of the only things these co-defenders of the 1 Percent agree on. Their political monopoly must be ended.
