Solvang’s annual Christmas celebration known as Julefest will have a tasty new ingredient added to its mix of events this year. On Dec. 14 the very first S’moresFest! will be held at Solvang Park in downtown Solvang, from 4-7 p.m.

At this fest within a fest (within a turkey?) attendees will be able to roast their own marshmallows and create their own customized s’mores from a selection of local sweets—such as chocolate grahams from Ingeborg’s World Famous Danish Chocolates, fudge from Old Danish Fudge Kitchen, ginger snaps from Olsen’s Danish Village Bakery, snickerdoodles from The Solvang Bakery, Belgian waffle cookies from Mortensen’s Danish Bakery, and for a savory element, bacon from Succulent Café Wine Charcuterie.

Music for Smore’sFest! will be provided by local band The Molly Ringwald Project. As the name implies, they specialize in ’80s nostalgia, and will be dishing out some timely holiday tunes.

Julefest, which takes its name from the Danish spelling of “yule,” begins Dec. 1 and goes on through Jan. 10. In addition to SmoresFest! it will feature a number of other events including 100 Trees of Julefest, Solvang on Ice, a Tree-Lighting Ceremony, a Christmas Parade, a Holiday Wine Walk, a Nativity Pageant, and a Christmas Tree Burn, making it one of the premiere winter festivals in the area. In fact, the next time someone complains to you that we don’t have “real” winters here on the Central Coast, take them over to Julefest for a stroll through the Solvang village and a skate on the ice rink, and if they remain unconvinced, just shove a s’more in their face and call it a day.

Tickets for S’moresFest! are $10 in advance, $15 at the event, and will include two s’mores, hot chocolate, and entertainment. For more information about S’moresFest! and Julefest go to
