A new guidebook is hot off the presses, featuring color photos and descriptions of 300 species of wildflowers found within five and a half miles of the San Luis Obispo City Hall.
Cal Poly botany professors Dave Kiel and Dirk Walter donated photos and provided descriptions, and photographer Marlin Harms and other wildlife enthusiasts also contributed.
“Marlin was willing to get into the bogs and the poison oak,” said Jim Johnson, publications chair for the local Native Plant Society.
The field guide is available at the Crushed Grape at the Madonna Inn, Coalesce Bookstore in Morro Bay, through the California Native Plant Society website at cnps.org, or by calling 528-0446. Funds raised will be used to contribute to future open space purchases and for research on endangered plants, among other purposes, Johnson said.
