SLO County libraries host National Poetry Month events

T.S. Eliot may consider April to be “the cruelest month,” but we all know it’s the opposite. One, my birthday is in April (always a celebratory occasion). And two, April is National Poetry Month. As such, several SLO County libraries will be celebrating this affair with a series of readings, film screenings, and live performances.

On April 4, the San Luis Obispo Library is hosting a Poets Laureate Reading, featuring 10 past and current poets laureate and Corners of the Mouth founder, Kevin Patrick Sullivan, as Master of Ceremonies. That evening, you can also catch a screening of the 1980s classic tearjerker, Dead Poets Society.

During the second week of April, the reading series continue with a Poetry Evening at Atascadero Library on April 9, featuring Beverly Boyd, Leslie St. John, and current SLO County poet laureate, Marguerite Costigan. On April 13, you can create your poems at Cayucos Library at its event, Poetry on the Patio.
