Sip it good

Tall, dark stranger: Get to know the inky and delicious wine grape that is petite sirah during the Paso Robles Rhone Rangers' next Varietal Night slated for Jan. 19 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. It's all going down at elegant Derby Wine Estates in Paso Robles, and tickets are $25 per person in advance. For tickets and information, call 238-6300 ... Appendage and Bough isn't just a great place to pick up reclaimed wood furniture and retro goodies galore. The shop will be hosting a craft cocktail collaboration with Atascadero's own Whiskey and June this Jan. 23. The eclectic event includes an evening of crafting, drinking, and learning the creative process behind the best cocktails. Mark your calendar and find more information by following @appendageandbough on Instagram or stop by the shop at 1335 Walker St. in SLO.

Gonna eat that?

Cheese, please: Gino's Pizza is open for business at 1761 Monterey St. in downtown, and the 'za is super fresh and garlicky! Not only that, but you can totally play video games and pinball while you wait for your crisp-crusted creation (call 752-1333 for information and deliveries) ... Sidecar in SLO has been crafting killer bloody Marys for some time now, but you haven't lived until you've slurped a jalapeño bloody (or two) alongside a warm bowl of their famous Brussels sprouts topped with balsamic reduction, goat cheese, and garlic aioli. Sounds like a weird combo, but it's absolutely perfect on a lazy Sunday afternoon reflecting on 2015 (1127 Broad St.) ... Speaking of pizza: After 33 years, the owners of Vieni Vai Trattoria are handing over the Higuera Street location to the next generation. Keep your eyes peeled for a new farm-to-table Italian eatery dubbed The Flour House!

Craft beer ahead

Raise a glass: SLO Brew recently said goodbye to its Garden Street location and hello to Higuera Street. Currently, construction is still underway on the multistory music venue, taproom, and restaurant, which is slated to open this March. Fans of the iconic brewery's offerings can look forward to cans of SLO Brew beer, bottles of craft rye whiskey, and a soon-to-be-constructed "whiskey lounge" for sipping both downtown. Beer geeks will also rejoice that SLO Brew's brewing facility/even larger indoor-outdoor music venue The Rock is also moving forward near the airport. The craft beer destination will even feature an automated tasting tap for perfectly calculated sips, no bartender required (keep up with the saga at slobrewingco.com) ... The SLO Brew Craft Beer Fest is kicking off Feb. 26 and 27 at Madonna Inn; get your tickets now and book your gaudy, pink room before they're all gone at slo-beer-fest.com.

Send your pizza crusts and empties to hthomas@newtimesslo.com.
