Shredder is missing the big picture

To the Shredder, re your column of May 19-25, the item concerning the ongoing Los Osos circus:

The item under discussion is a wastewater treatment plant, not a "sewer."

WWTPs (pun intended) rarely stink. I lived within 1 1/2 miles of the SLO one for 7 1/2 years without ever smelling any effluent.

Mr. Buel and three of the LOCSD Board members are following protocol for public meetings in remaining impassive under a barrage of personal remarks, lies, and disruptive noises. They should be lauded, not ridiculed.

As for the recall movement, it is the latest of a long series of delaying tactics on the part of citizens (some of whom are renters, not property owners; some of whom live in Los Osos only part-time) who have opposed the building of any WWTP anywhere for many years, and by opposing have raised the eventual cost immensely.

I have followed this controversy for 10 years because of my friends who live in Los Osos who will be adversely impacted by the result, whatever it may be. I have attended several community workshops, way too many LOCSD meetings (until the discourtesy and repetitive misinformation drove me to desist), and read all the informational material disseminated. No governing body could have done more to inform the citizens of the community nor to obtain their input. Enough, already! Let no outsiders voice their opinions until they have reviewed the 30-year history of the Great Los Osos "Sewer" Debate!
