Shoals' jobs as mayor and PG&E representativedo not conflict

Grover Beach

Coastal SLO County has only three major employers: Cal Poly, the prison, and the Diablo Canyon PG&E plant. We do get vacationers but they bring in mostly service-level, minimum wage jobs. Diablo Canyon pays hundreds of millions of dollars in taxes. Their almost 2000 employees and contractors shop, pay taxes, buy homes, volunteer, coach, and contribute to the communities in which they live. Diablo Canyon helps support Grover Beach.

John Shoals, who is the mayor of Grover Beach and also a PG&E representative (The Shredder, March 23), is working to keep Diablo Canyon going here on the Central Coast, providing jobs and electricity like it has for nearly 30 years. It seems to me John is doing what I helped  elect him to do. I see no conflict between his political office and his job with PG&E.
