Re: “DA declines to charge former Paso police officer accused of sexual assault

Survivors do NOT come forward to simply be offered "other ways" of support: They come forward because they want justice. They want to see that the perpetrator is held accountable for his/her actions. I am outraged that Dow went against DNA evidence and the SLO County Sheriff's deputy's recommendation because sexual assault cases are "difficult" and "complex." It does not matter if the two people had previous consenting sexual activity: If at some point, any point, there is an unwanted advance, it is force and therefore unlawful. Where is the justice?

Re: “Central Coast taxpayers deserve better

We could invest in all of it if corporations and wealthy people would pay their fair share in taxes, and if Prop 13 would be overturned so all Californians would pay their fair share. We are all in this together, right?

Re: “The high-speed rail is still worth the money

The fallacy of American "rugged independence" and "individualism" as promulgated by Republicans and Libertarians has shredded the importance of community and a "we're all in this together" mindset. Divide and conquer is the way the forces of hegemony keep us from amassing our collective power and creating a truly amazing nation (and world). We all share this planet, and it seems to me that the sooner we all get together and get to work, the better. Sitting around griping about infrastructures and programs that make life easier for others results in keeping us all down, and keeping the already rich and powerful happily feeding off our petty-minded, cold-hearted desperation and hatred.

Re: “Don't be shy

Thank you, Andrew, for your letter and argument for human and environmental evolution:

"The fire falls at Yosemite have been terminated. Dynamite fishing and bear baiting are relics of the past. It's time to conform to environmental laws as they have evolved since the SVRA at Oceano Dunes was designated so that the park does not keep killing people, crushing endangered species, and giving us the distinction of the worst air quality in the nation."

Let's move forward in service of a healthy planet and all its inhabitants.

Re: “Unfree speech

"Cal Poly claims the protesters violated the university's Student Code of Conduct for an unpermitted sign." With that vague of a definition in the Student Code of Conduct, every T-shirt, hat, hoodie, and tattoo on campus that bears a logo and/or words is an unpermitted sign, too. As a recent Poly grad, I say please, let's have more of this arbitrary and ambiguous bullshit by Armstrong's Kyriarchal A-Team -- it helps entrench me in camp with the "Poly Peaceniks"!

Re: “Cal Poly reportedly investigating students for career fair protest

Hey, Matt Lazier: Isn't "protest" by definition a form of disruption? So proud of SLO Peace Coalition for standing up to the war machine and fascism in general. Stay strong!

Re: “Cal Poly suspends all Greek life amid blackface photo fallout

Sadly, the Greek system at Cal Poly, as a microcosm of American culture, includes many immature, non-self-reflective individuals who will simply gather in secret to fly their flags of hatred under the radar . . . until they get outed again. Can these folks evolve? I sincerely wonder.
