Shaky ground

Los Osos

If I were to build a power plant you could bet I would not place it on a fault line, and I certainly would not build it out of glass and mirrors. The reason the Carrisa Plains are as flat as they are is because they are in a zone where earth moves like liquid during earthquakes. First Solar company has been very nice to buy a very large advertisement presenting a public Q and A in New Times, but those Qs and As are B and S at best.

First question: How is Topaz minimizing water usage? They state, “...minimal water is needed only during construction—primarily for dust control.” What about bathrooms for the workers or drinking fountains? What about cleaning? What about fire control? The proposed location neighbors one of California’s biggest undeveloped national parks. Never mind the fire danger, who’s going to pick up all the pieces when thousands of solar panels become shrapnel during the next Big One? Are we going to get stuck with another tax for the cleanup?
