Rusack 2009 Pinot Noir Reserve Sta. Rita Hills

This impressive, elegant Pinot Noir doesn’t come cheaply, but it’s so delightful you’ll find it’s well worth the price. An intensely fruity, ripe combination of black and red berries, the blackberry and black cherry aromas and flavors are nicely balanced by acidic raspberry notes, and nuances of spicy oak. The grapes were grown in Fiddlestix and Rio Vista vineyards, two excellent sources of Santa Barbara County Pinot. Aged in French oak, 33 percent new, there were only 318 cases produced which won’t last long. Pair this with a special meal of grilled ahi or salmon, a great steak topped with garlicky mushrooms, or my favorite game: roast quail. Available at the Rusack tasting room in Santa Ynez Valley, near Los Olivos, or you can find it closer at Vino Versato wine bar in Pismo Beach for $50 retail.
