Public gets Diablo tour

Barring an unforeseen orange alert, the Diablo Canyon Independent Safety Committee (DCISC) will bring a group of San Luis Obispo residents to the nuclear power plant for an informational tour.

This is the second time residents will be able to visit the plant since tours were put on hiatus after 9/11. The first planned tour after the attacks was canceled due to an orange alert.

Residents wanting to attend a tour must submit to background checks. According to DCISC, no one has ever been denied entry with the groups and tours book very quickly. If you were not lucky enough to be one of the first 20 callers, you can still attend an informational meeting at the Cliffs Resort in Shell Beach. Meetings are open to the public and will be held Oct. 5 and 6. For more information, see www.dcisc.org.
