I just read the letter by Jeremy Kincaid (“Unwelcome learning about gay marriage,” July 3). You know what makes me sick? People who believe they have the right to judge others on how they live and love. He and his wife should be grateful to have such a wonderful teacher for their children — gay or straight.
You say you’re not a bigot. Really?
Bigot: “One who is strongly partial to one’s own group, religion, race, or politics and is intolerant of those who differ.“
By being intolerant and using religion to justify your position, all you two have to do to find a bigot is look in the mirror.
It’s easy to forget that 40 years ago people were screaming and quoting the Bible to stop marriages between blacks and whites. When intolerant people quit trying to stop people who love each other from getting married, this would be a non-issue. There wouldn’t be articles, or bills trying to make amendments to the Constitution; people would be able to live their lives.
Maybe God is testing his followers to see if they’ve truly learned what he’s trying to teach — peace, love, and tolerance. It looks to me like his most ardent followers still have a lot to learn.
Think about that the next time you think you are not a bigot. Persecution comes in all forms, not the least, trying to take away someone’s right to marry the person they love.
The last time we mixed politics and religion people were burned at the stake.
