Barnett Cox & Associates, the public relations group that sent out a mailer in support of the Marketplace, said it does not legally have to print a retraction for using the city's logo on one of its mailers. City Attorney Jonathan Lowell has investigated the use of the logo on the mailer, which featured the opinion of Mayor Dave Romero. According to Dave Cox of Barnett Cox & Associates, because the city logo is not a shield there was no improper use.
"We didn't intend to mislead anybody," he said. "We didn't do anything illegal." Still Cox, whose company also has contracts with the city, said he intended to mention the accidental misuse of the logo in one of the group's future mailings.
