Pozo fire takes almost 1,200 acres 

A wildfire that consumed more than 1,150 acres near Pozo was more than 95 percent contained as of press time, with fire officials predicting full containment by sundown on Aug. 25.

The fire began in the early afternoon of Aug. 21 in the Los Padres National Forest a few miles northeast of the town of Pozo. Turkey Flat, Friis, Navajo, La Panza, and Navajo Flat recreation areas were threatened by the fire and were closed. The blaze’s origin is unknown and is being investigated.

More than 600 firefighting personnel fought the flames along with three helicopters and a water-dropping aircraft.
