Police search for a rapist in Los Osos

The San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Department is searching for the suspect in a reportedly brutal rape in Los Osos.

On Sept. 17, a female Los Osos resident reported to Sheriff’s deputies that she was raped at knifepoint the night before. The victim told investigators that at approximately 11:30 p.m. she was taking garbage to the curb in front of her house in the vicinity of Ramona and Eighth Street, when an unidentified man snuck up from behind and put a knife to her throat, according to a department press release.

The suspect then forced the victim inside her home, where she was sexually assaulted, the department said. It’s unclear whether the suspect was waiting for the victim, or if the alleged crime was random.

As of press time, investigators were still searching for the suspect, who is described as a white, male adult, in his late 20s to early 30s, approximately 6 feet tall, clean-shaven, and wearing a hooded sweatshirt that partially concealed his face, according to the release.

Officials are advising residents in the vicinity of the reported incident to take precautionary measures, and to report any suspicious activity in the area to the Sheriff’s Department.

A spokesman for the Sheriff’s Department couldn’t be reached for elaboration on “precautionary measures,” and no suspect sketch was available.

The department is asking anyone with relevant information to call investigators at 781-4500, or leave an anonymous tip at Crime Stoppers at 549-STOP.
