Opera San Luis Obispo gives Gala Concert on March 20

If you were looking to dip your toe into the vast waters of opera, it would behoove you to know that Opera San Luis Obispo’s upcoming Gala Concert on March 20 has you covered. Showcasing a combination of songs from well-known operas, this concert will be the perfect sampler for both opera lovers and newbies alike.

The event will follow a unique format that defies the traditional “vocalist only” opera. According to Marilyn Fidler, communications director of Opera San Luis Obispo, this event will include multiple groups that will be performing musical excerpts from various operas—all hand-picked by artistic director and conductor Brian Asher Alhadeff.

There will be a few familiar songs such as the “Figaro! Figaro! Figaro!” aria from Barber of Seville and “Dance of the Hours” from La Giocanda (the part in Fantasia with the dancing elephants wearing tutus.) Although this show will not feature any dancing elephants, there will be an original ballet choreographed by local dance instructor Theresa Slobodnik.

This event will take place March 20 at 2 p.m. at the Performing Arts Center. For more information, visit operaslo.org. Ticket prices range from $15 to $65 and can be purchased online at pacslo.org.
