Off-roaders don't whimper

Morro Bay

Regarding Diane Kosarko’s letter of Feb. 5 (“Ban beach vehicles”): Diane, it is not hail to the almighty dollar (although I believe dollars do play a part). It is hail to the almighty Bill of Rights and the freedoms of choice we enjoy as a result of that document. Those who were or are going to be injured or killed on the dunes do so of their own free will. I can’t remember a single incident where an injured person said they were
forced to participate in the activity in which they were injured.

You have the freedom of speech to voice your opposition to the activities as much as the off-roaders have a right to their activities. As for the anguish and sorrow they cause their relatives and those they leave behind: It was their choice to participate in that activity. Let me repeat that. It was their choice to participate in that activity.

It is kind-hearted of you to feel sorry for those left behind but you cannot be responsible for the actions of others. California has approximately 800 miles of coastline. About one percent of that is the Oceano Dunes off-road recreation area. Sharing things is something your mother should have taught you.
