Not your mother’s Tupperware party

Back in the mid-1950s, Tupperware parties were all the rage for women in need of an escape from the obligations of work and family. A chance to indulge in a bit of much-needed girl time, these gatherings usually involved good food, tasty cocktails, outrageous gossip — and the purchase of state-of-the-art, airtight plastic food containers that promised to bring excitement back into the kitchen.
My, how times have changed.

#While today’s woman still needs that opportunity to escape from her real-world responsibilities, she’s not likely to be thrilled by a collection of dishwasher-safe, re-sealable plastic bowls. With a little help from Slumber Parties, though, she can still look forward to a fun-filled girls’ night out, complete with food, fun, and exciting products, albeit ones guaranteed to spice up an entirely different room in the home.

Let’s face it: Years of marriage, a kid or two, and a life full of distractions can make it difficult to find that many-splendored spark between you and your loved one. And though a wealth of products exists to help couples rekindle the fires of their passion, finding out about them can be a delicate situation, especially for women. That’s where Slumber Parties comes in. Like the Tupperware parties of old, Slumber Parties’ products are sold at private, in-home gatherings hosted by friends, for friends. After a fun, informative presentation by a sales representative, guests are given the chance to see, touch, and in some cases, even taste products before making a purchase. The mood is light, the environment encouraging, and the opportunities are endless.

“Women come to these events and it’s like, ‘Halleluiah, where’ve you been?’ says Deana Borges, who brought Slumber Parties to the Central Coast three years ago. A former peddler of plastic bowls herself, she says the transition to adult-oriented products was a no-brainer. “I realized this was something women really wanted. I feel like I’m helping people understand that everybody’s doing it, and it’s OK. Women of all walks of life attend these parties, and virtually everybody leaves satisfied.

“It’s really empowering. Women get together and let their hair down. Then they go home to their significant others feeling sexy and excited about their new purchases. It’s good for everybody.
Deana carries a wide range of products, from lotions and massage oils, to lingerie, how-to books, and playful unmentionables. Parties are for consenting, adult women only, and guests are assured a confidential, one-on-one ordering session with Deana at the end of the evening. That way, no one need ever know whether you decided on the “Tickle Me Fancy, or the “G-Whiz or the “Love Swing. Nobody but you and your partner, who will undoubtedly welcome you home with open arms.

Whether it’s a bachelorette party, a birthday celebration, or simply your turn to plan the monthly ladies’ night, Slumber Parties offers an exciting, new twist on the modern tradition of private sales events. Kind of like Mom used to do it, only a whole lot more fun.
