Thirteen North County residents will face charges related to an alleged methamphetamine trafficking ring that local officials say reached all the way to Mexico. A criminal grand jury decided to indict all 13 people who were arrested in the Aug. 8 sweep, which followed a year-long investigation. All of the indicted men and women, ranging from 21 years old to 65, are being charged with conspiracy, possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell, and transportation of a controlled substance.
SLO County Narcotics Task Force agents, with help from federal and state law enforcement agents, sized 3.5 pounds of meth from 9 locations in SLO County and Los Angeles. Police also seized one stolen handgun, a rifle, and an “assault rifle”.
Task Force Commander Rodney John said the defendants were involved in a scheme to traffic drugs into SLO County from as far as Mexico, Los Angeles, and Bakersfield. Despite the far reach of the alleged ring, only people from San Luis Obispo County are facing charges. ∆
