Lone Madrone's 2012 'The Will'

Where there's a will, there's a way. Grenache, zinfandel, and petite sirah splash together to create this earthy, rich, concentrated red that calls out for meat, meat, and more meat (I paired it with pistachio-crusted steak). Named after the "Will's Hills" vineyard in Paso Robles"which is, in turn, named after fourth generation farmers Neil and Ginny Heaton's son, Will"the wine comes from dry-farmed fruit that also took quite "a will" to grow in chalky west side soil. Lone Madrone suggests that the best way to honor this beautiful piece of land is to simply "eat, drink, and be merry," (it's even written on the back of the bottle), so that's exactly what I did and that's exactly what I suggest you do, too. This big, Paso Robles red helps with the "drink" part.

$45; 5800 Adelaida Road, Paso Robles.
