Libertine Pub's Summer Breeze and Hearst Ranch Winery's 2014 Rose

I waited quite a while to peel open the festive red wax top on my coveted bottle of Libertine Pub’s tart Summer Breeze. A visit from a new sour-loving friend—and her adorable pup—truly warranted a ceremonious, fun-loving brew packed full of personality. Pucker-worthy and fruity with plenty of raspberry kick, this wild, small-batch ale is best enjoyed while petting small dogs in sweaters. If you haven’t made it out to the brewery yet, pack a picnic for Morro Bay and get out there. You’ll want to try all of Libertine’s sours in a sitting, but I recommend starting slow and working your way up.

• Libertine Pub’s Summer BreezePrice and availability varies. Contact brewery for details; 810 Embarcadero, Morro Bay.

Spring is rolling quickly into summer, which means you need to stock up on this refreshing, exuberant rosé, pronto! A harmonious mix of tempranillo, merlot, cabernet franc, grenache, and syrah, this 2014 Hearst Ranch Rosé is like a lovely garden party unfolding in your mouth. Pack your croquet mallets, floppy hat, and glamorous Jackie O sunglasses. It’s going to be an epic summer, and this pink drink is your best accessory yet.

• Hearst Ranch Winery’s 2014 Rosé$22 a bottle; 442 SLO San Simeon Drive, San Simeon.

Hayley Thomas is probably drinking at the SLO Elks Lodge right now at hthomas@newtimesslo.com.
