Kreuzberg's Hot Apple Cider and Reef Points Hard Cider's Kid Neptune

Let’s savor this magical time: the fleeting window when Christmas seems like a fun idea and has yet to bankrupt us of our joy or hard-earned cash. On the very first day of December, I decided that I was going to delve head first into this holiday thing while it still felt semi-chill. Before searching downtown SLO for the perfect fake pink tree, I stopped by Kreuzberg for a piping hot mug of local See Canyon apple cider (cinnamon stick included!). There, I listened to 1950s Christmas music unironically while admiring the heck out of the coffee shop’s big-ass, twinkling tree. Check back with me next week, when I will begin my transformation into The Grinch Who Wore Lipstick.

• Kreuzberg's Hot Apple CiderAbout $4 for a 16 oz cup; 685 Higuera St., SLO.

What’s barrel fermented, bone dry, and made by two rad local surfers? You guessed it! I am speaking of none other than Cayucos-based Reef Points Hard Cider, perfect for sipping around a crackling beach bonfire. Their crisp signature blend, Kid Neptune, is packed with refreshing Pippin, Golden Delicious, and Braeburn apples sourced from Watsonville and crafted right here in Paso Robles. This holiday, why not put down the bubbly for a sec and fill your glass with this bodacious golden libation? Cheers to a fresh tradition—and to long “winter” walks on the beach.

• Reef Points Hard Cider’s Kid Neptune$14 for a 22 oz bottle; available at retailers and taps throughout the county. Visit reefpointsinc.com for information.
