Korie Newman - Event Coordinator for Downtown Brewing Co.

NEW TIMES: What kind of cake did you get Downtown Brewing Co. for its third birthday?

NEWMAN: It’s a special beer cake with porter-flavored icing. And those who don’t like cake can have beer floats.

NEW TIMES: What are the reasons behind adopting a dress code?

NEWMAN: We want an environment where everyone can feel comfortable and have a good time, and the dress code we implemented serves that purpose. It was really in response to customer feedback in that people have a reasonable expectation of respect when they go out, and we want to fulfill those expectations.

NEW TIMES: What’s the overall mission of the booking staff in getting artists to perform in SLO?

NEWMAN: We’re fortunate to have a range of different demographics on the Central Coast, and we want to make sure that we have something for everyone. We’ve striven to stimulate culture by reinvigorating the live music scene on the Central Coast, and in doing so we’ve become a hub for the community to come together.

NEW TIMES: What are your feelings behind Downtown Brewing Co. becoming a top live music venue in SLO?

NEWMAN: It’s flattering that our venue would be considered premier, but we really appreciate what the community has allowed us to become. There’s something special about this venue, and with good people giving such a good vibe, the artists love coming here and always want to come back.

NEW TIMES: Where is Downtown Brewing Co. going from here?

NEWMAN: We just want to keep bringing the party by brewing the finest beer and bringing in top-notch artists to perform. We’re too much a part of the community to have it any other way.
