Keep it civil in Morro Bay 

I have lived in Morro Bay for 30 years. I am interested in what happens in my government and often go to the council meetings. I have especially enjoyed going and staying for public comment period, when people of our community can speak on any subject that interests them.

I believe that people speaking at government meetings should be thinking of their audience. Offensive, brutish, loud, and mean comments are seen by the whole community, the officials, their families (who may be watching at home on TV), and children who have come with their parents. I have been ashamed and embarrassed for some speakers at the Morro Bay City  Council meetings. They show up, spew their ugliness, and then leave.

Many of us have our opinions about people on the council, but we don’t attack anyone personally. It is “hitting below the belt” to behave this way. Also, mentioning any of the council members’ family or spouses in a negative way is just plain wrong.

I have never heard people attack council members and the mayor like what has occurred in the last few meetings here. I sincerely hope that the people doing this (you know who you are) stop it! Come, state your case, stick to the issue that interests you, but leave your bullying, name calling, and personal attacks at home.
