JUSTIN Winery's 2014 Sauvignon Blanc and J. Dusi's 2012 Zinfandel

You know what sounds like a perfect Paso summer afternoon? Sitting on the patio at The Restaurant at JUSTIN, noshing on just-picked produce from the winery’s lush edible garden. Even in my wildest fantasies, Paso Robles is hotter than hell, so you know I would be drinking a chilled glass of the winery’s 2014 sauvignon blanc to cool my jets. This tropical, crisp summer wine isn’t just refreshing, it also costs less than $15. Yes, even in my daydreams, I tend to drink affordably.

J. Dusi winemaker/owner Janell Dusi knows zinfandel. Her family began growing it way back in the 1920s, and she’s got the old vines to prove it. With all of the light, ethereal wines coloring this summer in pastel pinks and yellows, I felt a need for something with a bit more bite. This delightfully red 2012 zinfandel is all cranberry-clove deliciousness with a wild berry punch to the palate. It’s the little black bikini in a sea of white lace cover-ups.
