Just add beer

Ya’ll ready for this? Eclectic Nashville songwriter Travis Meadows will perform at Tap It Brewing Company on Feb. 4 from 7 to 9 p.m. on the brewery’s new stage. The Pairing Knife food truck will have you covered for grub, and do you even have to ask about the beer? For tickets, go to tapitbrewing.com (675 Clarion Court, SLO) … Blast 825 has opened its eighth California location in San Luis Obispo, and you may have noticed that the dining room and bar have been packed as of late. Maybe it’s the fact that you can choose your dough, sauce, and toppings on your wood-fired pizza, or maybe it’s the local beer on tap? I don’t know about you, but I’m ready to find out for myself (733 Higuera St., SLO).

Uncorked

Flutter, flutter: This Feb. 6, hundreds of people will flock to Pismo Beach for Western Monarch Day. You can honor this annual meeting of the wings by opening up a bottle of Edna Valley True Myth 2014 chardonnay, inspired by the delicate black-and-orange creatures (find out more at truemythwinery.com) ... Chamisal Vineyards wines will be poured at the SLO Downtown Association’s Concerts in the Plaza events this summer … You know when you buy a bottle that’s SIP Certified you’re getting a green product (the rigorous California-wide program represents 40,000 certified acres and 2 million cases of certified wine). Here’s an update on the SLO-born nonprofit: In 2016, the group will be nationally honored for its ongoing efforts to promote sustainability in the wine industry, including an award from the Department of Pesticide Regulation and the International Green Industry Hall of Fame. Earth Day has come early for these folks!

Pre V-Day frolicks

Before the smoochfest: This Feb. 12, make plans to attend a romantic winemaker dinner at Apple Farm, a “Love Can’t Wait” pre V-Day dinner at Robin’s Restaurant in Cambria, or a lovey dovey Supper Club Spectacular at Hunter Ranch in Paso Robles ... What could be more romantic than poetry and wine? On Feb. 13, CORE Winery Tasting Room will host a free evening of pre Valentine’s Day work featuring SLO poet and Cal Poly professor Kevin Clark and San Jose State Writing Program Director Alan Soldofsky (CORE is located at 105 W. Clark Ave. in Old Orcutt; for more information, call 937-1600). What can I say? Words truly are the best aphrodisiac.
