The inaugural JumpBrush: Pacific Coast Dance Convergence, takes place Aug. 12-14 at Cal Poly’s PAC. The following is a schedule of classes, lectures, and performances.
Aug. 12, 8 p.m. ODC Dance of San Francisco performs at the PAC.
Also on Thursday, participants will have an opportunity to register and there will be a welcome party.
On Friday: 8 a.m. All Yoga Wake-up at the Pavilion; 9:30-11 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., there will be classes in four venues around the campus; 1 p.m. lunch; 2:30-4 p.m. classes; 4:30-6 p.m. classes; 7-8:30 p.m. Interactive Open Workshop.
On Saturday: 8 a.m. All Yoga Wake-up at the Pavilion; 9:30-11 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., there will be classes in four venues around the campus; 1 p.m. lunch; 2:30-4 p.m. classes; 4:30-6 p.m. classes; 7 p.m. pre-performance lecture by Nancy G. Moore, a dance historian; 8 p.m. performance in Harman Hall by Civic Ballet of SLO, Ballet Theatre San Luis Obispo, Variable Velocity, and Deyo Dances; 9:45 p.m. post-performance Q&A.
Pre-performance lectures include such topics as dancer health and injury prevention; intro to gyro-tonics; auditioning, conditioning, touring, résumé; community building through dance; and how to dance forever, techniques to maintain your body and dance throughout the years.
Classes include ballet, contemporary, jazz, modern, conditioning, contact improvisation, and interactive workshops. Classes cost $15-20 to attend, workshops cost $10, and performances cost $30. Observers can attend classes and workshops for $5.
