Jumpbrush, Pacific Coast Dance Convergence

Local choreographers Lisa Deyo (founder and director of Deyo Dances), Drew Silvaggio (artistic director of Civic Ballet), Diana Stanton (co-artistic director of Variable Velocity), and Theresa Slobodnik (ballet director for Dance Obispo) are pooling their talent for a three-day festival of dance classes (ballet, contemporary, jazz, modern, conditioning, contact improvisation, and an interactive workshop), workshops, and performances Aug. 12 to 14. Dancers and observers can register at the Jumpbrush website,

For those who just can’t wait four months for the convergence of local dance talent, the choreographers are hosting free dance classes on April 24 at 2 p.m. in the PAC Pavilion, June 5 at 2 p.m. in the Cal Poly Dance Studio, and June 13 at 2 p.m. in the Cal Poly Dance Studio.

Silvaggio will teach the April 24 performance, which will be followed by a performance of Ballet Theatre SLO’s Coppelia. Slobodnik will teach the June 5 class, followed by a performance of Variable Velocity’s The Treasure of Presence at the Spanos Theatre, and Lisa Deyo will teach the final June 13 class, followed by a performance of Civic Ballet’s The Slightest Movement at the SLO Little Theatre at 7 p.m. In addition to dancers, artists are welcome to come and sketch the performers during the class. Photographers, however, are not allowed to take pictures. No reservations are necessary to participate.
