Jo Armstrong, General Manager Avila Beach Golf Resort

6464 Ana Bay Drive, Avila Beach

NEW TIMES: Why should golfers come to your golf resort instead of other local golf resorts?

ARMSTRONG: One of our distinctive qualities for this golf resort is the location. You cannot beat just how beautiful the golf course is and how gorgeous Avila Beach is. They’re the perfect complement to any golfer to appreciate on a nice day to escape. We provide a par-71, 6,500-yard championship course for golfers of all skills to enjoy.

NEW TIMES: You mentioned the championship course; have some of the big-name golfers played at the resort?

ARMSTRONG: Well, we would like to keep some discretion when it comes to professional golfers who have played on this course; however, we do have PGA professionals who help instruct and teach fellow golfers on how to improve their game. Maybe they’ll be able to become a professional golf player someday themselves.

NEW TIMES: You not only provide a place for avid golfers, but you host many concerts, don’t you?

ARMSTRONG: Concerts, events, weddings: We can host them all. Just recently at the beginning of summer we hosted the California Festival of Beers. We had Cheech and Chong perform here for their Get It Legal tour. Starting the 4th of July we’ll be hosting our Sundays on the Sand concert venue. Every Sunday until August 29 we’ll have local and traveling performers on stage for free concerts. The concerts start at 1 p.m. and will satisfy a wide variety of tastes, from reggae to folk, electronic to blues. ∆
