Re: “Time to gang up on our county representatives

I was at the California PUC hearing for taking community comments on the "Joint Proposal" by PG&E . This proposal was hatched in secret by PG&E working with the worst enemies of clean, global warming-fighting nuclear power. If this proposal is so fair, why was it done in secret with these one-sided players? This stinks.

One by one, agency heads, and local government heads marched to the mike to say they were for this damaging blow to the community. Mark Henry is right - all these people betrayed the community by following some secret order to praise the loss of $1 billion coming into the community from Diablo Canyon operations each year. The Chamber of Commerce approved the loss to local businesses they are supposed to protect!

The environment will lose its best weapon locally against global warming - carbon free atomic produced electricity. What kind of people support this travesty?

Take action people. Protect yourselves because nobody else will. If you do nothing, don't whine when utility rates increase, CO2 emissions rocket upwards, soot, smoke and ozone enter your children's lungs from the fossil fuel that will take over Diablo's clean work.

Re: “Take responsibility for the results of your actions

Good point Mr. Henry. Many get their "knowledge" from some radio or TV blow hard appealing to emotion. These Radio/TV types are very often short on data to back what they say.

On Diablo Canyon, we saw many local agency heads (schools, law enforcement, economic development, emergency services) go to the mike at the PUC meeting a swaar allegiance to what they believed is the Establishment wishes - i.e., that the plant be closed.

We need to remember the names of these officials when schools suffer from budget reductions, parks close due to loss of tax base, police services get trimmed due the loss of one billion dollars coming into the community from Diablo Canyon operations.

These officials have one motivation in mind - protect their jobs by showing support of the Establishment and help the fossil fuel natural gas industry sell more product. Because that happened in a big way when the San Onofre plant shut in the San Diego area.

Diablo Canyon is the State's No.1 fighter of global warming because it puts out 2.3 billion watts of electricity furnishing electricity to 3 million homes without emitting one molecule of earth-heating CO2. The San Onofre closure was the equivalent of putting 2.5 million more cars on California roads.

Re: “Mathematical conundrum

Mark Henry has made an excellent case against the possibility of renewables (solar in his example) being capable of stopping global warming. More and more serious analysts are reaching the same conclusion - there is no possible way wind, solar and other so-called renewables can do the job.

Stanford trained Google engineers reached the same conclusion about renewables ability to furnish the electricity America needs to curb global warming: IMPOSSIBLE was the term they used.

Each of us needs to focus on the all important energy debate for the sake of our children, grandchildren and the planet. We must got off deadly, planet-killing fossil fuels as soon as possible. Focus on this most important of all issues.

Any organization trying to sell you on the idea wind and solar can stop global warming is highly likely to have ties to the fossil fuel industry that you can discover, or perhaps can't see.
