This delicious Cabernet was impressive during the Paso Robles Cab Collective grand tasting. During the cab seminar, Lohr winemaker Steve Peck noted that he added one percent syrah to punch up the fruit: “It was an intentional decision on this blend to try for a fruit-forward style with the oak a subtle flavor behind it. It was aged 18 months in 60 percent new French oak.” This pretty, deeply hued cab offers appealing aromas and flavors of black cherries, blackberries, and plums with nuances of dark chocolate, and spicy oak notes. Very nicely balanced, it’s a wine you can enjoy on its own and as a tasty accompaniment to a special meal. Lohr’s website recommends pairing this with herbed beef filet or roasted rosemary pork chops. It’s also a good choice for grilled steak or lamb chops. Available at the Paso Robles tasting room or online at JLohr.com, it’s a good buy at $35 retail.
