Re: “Why 'America First' is for losers

Ms Mcliss,

I agree with many of your points. Some others not so much. The main point I think you have wrong is that you're dropping all of this at Trump's feet, Congress is as much and probably more to blame for our current immigration problems.

If you really want to do something about it, here's what we need first: campaign finance reform. Almost every issue, that needs attention and doesn't get it, can be traced back to money in politics. Gun control = money. Environment = money. Government waste = money. Healthcare = money. Even our foreign policy is shaped by money in politics.

I fear that I am too old, and all my friends are too old, we all have to go to work. But you youngsters could actually do something, by demanding a constitutional amendment to address money in politics.

Re: “I like fossil fuels and nuclear power

We could be energy independent without oil or gas. Most Californians support the move toward generating our own clean energy. Politicians choose not to make those investments. What we need is campaign finance reform and term limits.

Re: “Vaping should be celebrated

The only thing I like about vaping, is that it makes it easy to spot a dumbass.

Re: “Profound nonsense

Fonzi is wrong about many things. That's pretty obvious. But that aside...

There are many issues like this in USA. Issues that have obvious problems with obvious solutions. The first steps are campaign finance reform and term limits.

Re: “Arguments over nuclear power make my eyes glaze over

Sure, nuclear is potentially dangerous. But all the other ways that we currently use are definitely dangerous. Potential danger is (slightly) better that definite danger.

Danger aside, it's not the danger to the environment or the long lasting consequences that decide what we use to generate power, it's money. Figure out the money side, and you can get any kind of power you want.

Re: “Home is where you can't afford it

1. No one has right to live anywhere. They have the right to try.
2. If a business pays it's employees more than a competeing business, their prices will be necessarily higher, then they will lose business and fail. Harsh but true.
3. Should someone who is smart and worked hard be forced to pay the rent for someone who didn't?
4. Taking money from some and giving it to others, is redistribution; that's just etymology, that's just what the word means.

There are better ways to lower the price of housing, mainly, build more. The competition to purchase a house naturally will raise the price. If there are plenty available, the price will drop. The next way would be to lower (some of the ridiculous) building standards, and streamline the regulation.

Re: “Neighbors take Morro Bay, auto shop to court over permit

The shop was there first. Easy decision. The complainer ought to pay for the lawyer fees too.
