I wholeheartedly disagree

On Nov. 12, 1991, Amy Goodman and Allan Nairn went into East Timor and witnessed firsthand as the Indonesian military advanced on a crowd of peasants. Ignoring their own safety, they made their way to the front in the hope that their cameras might prevent the killing of innocents. They were not successful, as 271 unarmed men, women, and children were killed, 382 wounded, and another 250 “disappeared. For their efforts, Amy and Allan received U.S.-supplied M-16 rifle butts to their heads.

This is the woman that Mr. Gonzalez calls a “hack.

Mr. Gonzalez goes on to complain that there is not enough NPR news on KCBX, even though it currently comprises 31 hours per week of their schedule.

Mr. Gonzalez is wrong when he assumes that “Democracy Now! costs less than “The World. It is actually more than twice as expensive. If he were to contact KCBX he would discover that Public Radio International’s response to their questions regarding the Vioxx scandal prompted them to cancel the program.

But Mr. Gonzalez is correct that “Democracy Now! is not likely to report on the affair that Queen Victoria may have had with her manservant or the wisdom of instant replay in soccer as “The World did. “Democracy Now! is not as concerned with entertaining its listeners. It is designed as a news program for folks who want the truth about the issues most central to how this world is run.
