Holier than thou

Arroyo Grande

Of the 14 active churches that signed the letter bemoaning the California Supreme Court’s judgment sustaining Proposition 8, that marriage is between a man and a woman, seven are Episcopal (“Legalize marriage for gay partners,” May 28). That church, The Episcopal Church (TEC), and the worldwide Anglican Communion of which it is a member, are in the midst of a major schism. That schism is a result of TEC’s endorsement of the homosexual agenda and the denial of Scripture’s clear revelation that same-sex sexual relations are wrong and sinful.

TEC’s leaders endorse a worldview holding that the truth revealed in Scripture as it pertains to same-sex sexual relations is as obsolete as the Catholic Church’s historic condemnation of Galileo. This comparison is false, for it confuses the issue of an erroneous past church doctrine and that truth clearly stated in Scripture that unambiguously condemns same-sex sexual relations. (Rom. 1:26, 27, Lev. 18:22, 20:13, 1 Cor. 6:9, 1 Tim. 1:10, Gen. 19: 1-9, Judg. 22:19, 1 Kin. 14:24 and Jude 7.)

TEC has apparently dismissed the belief that concepts such as sexual moral values still matter. As a consequence, large numbers of Episcopalians and parishes are leaving for other denominations. I did, and others will follow.
