Higginbotham pulls out of SLO County supervisor race

Pismo Beach Mayor Shelly Higginbotham withdrew from the SLO County 3rd District Supervisor race on July 24, citing family and being Pismo’s mayor as factors in the decision.

“I remain deeply committed to seeing a change in the 3rd District and will continue to be a staunch advocate for issues and organizations that deserve and require a strong voice, like the 5-Cities Homeless Coalition,” she said in a press release.

Higginbotham won a tight race to seal her mayoral re-election bid in 2014, beating out challenger Kevin Kreowski by two votes.

The 3rd District includes Edna Valley, Grover Beach, Pismo Beach, and Avila Beach, as well as parts of San Luis Obispo. Adam Hill currently serves as its supervisor and has since 2009. Former Grover Beach Mayor Debbie Peterson and SLO City Councilmember Dan Carpenter are still lined up in the race against him for the 2016 election.
