Happening now

Shiver me timbers! Kraken Coffee Co. will soon open for business at 310 Front St. in Avila Beach. Created by the minds who brought you the popular Kreuzeberg Coffee Co., this cozy coastal outpost will serve up baked goods and third wave caffeine brewed with the strength of a salty sea monster (follow on Facebook for updates) ... Dogfish Head Brewing, the official beer of National Record Store Day, will take over the taps at SLO's Luis Wine Bar this April 20. Head to the beer and wine lounge for a libation and enjoy a Record Store Day pre-party that will have you spinning right round like a record, baby (and don't forget to hit Boo Boo Records on April 22 for the annual shindig featuring a smorgasbord of tasty local bands).

Spring, sprung

Breezy bites: Get ready to cook with the most sensational seasonal stars! Thomas Hill Organics is hosting way cool cooking demos at its new SLO restaurant ... Granada Hotel and Bistro in SLO recently unleashed its new spring menu full of bright greens, crunchy veggies, and herby sauces ... Break out the sun hat: Biddle Ranch Winery in Edna Valley will begin hosting some solid outdoor live music lineups during its First Thursdays events, held the first week of each month from 5 to 7 p.m. and beginning May 4 with local outfit Bear Market Riot ... Mistura in Paso Robles is serving up super fresh Peruvian cuisine—like seabass tiradito and alpaca carpaccio—plated with an artful eye.

Yummy vibes

Estuary enthusiasts, eat on: Keep Morro Bay clean (and gobble up sweet treats while doing so). Indulge your dessert desires by purchasing locally made confections from Treat SLO this month, and a portion of those proceeds will go back to the bay. The otters thank you in advance! ... Bow wow wonderful: Ubatuba Acai at 785 Marsh St. in SLO will host a fundraiser for Woods Humane Society this April 23 with half the day's sales going to the dog and cat sanctuary ... Pedal to the metal: Have you been out to see the wildflowers that are so effortlessly exploding off Shell Creek Road yet? Better get your butt out to this heavenly patch of northeastern SLO County (about 30 miles inland from Santa Margarita) before this epic bloom is just a colorful splash from the past. Why not head out to Shell Creek Vineyards to taste some petite sirah while you're at it? Follow @shellcreekvineyards on Instagram for wine offerings and wildflowers galore.
