Grover Beach council approves lodge project for a second time

Once again, the Grover Beach City Council unanimously approved plans for a long-awaited 121,370-square-foot lodge and conference center project at West Grand Avenue and Highway 1.

The council had approved virtually the same project on Dec. 2, 2013, but two appeals, a procedural error, and a seawall dispute between the Coastal Commission and California State Parks forced the council to withdraw its approval until the disputes were mediated.

State Parks and the commission recently reached a resolution, which necessitated a re-consideration of the project by the Grover council.

During its April 7 meeting, the council again voiced unanimous approval for the project, which has been in the works since 1982.

In a previous interview with New Times, Grover Beach City Manager Bob Perrault said he was “hopeful that this would be settled earlier” and called the lodge project’s delay “frustrating,” but said he was happy to see the project moving forward at long last.
