Get your Greek grub on

The Greeks have invented a lot of amazing things in this crazy world, everything from the water mill and odometer to the basis of geometry and modern philosophy. However, those aren’t things you can chew and swallow! Don’t worry, the Greeks are also known for their grand contributions to the flavor realm, too: moussaka, baklava, and tzatziki are my favorite of these offerings, all of which you can taste at the San Luis Obispo Greek Festival set for this June 3 and 4 at the Mission Plaza in downtown SLO. From 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, dine on homemade stuffed grape leaves, souvlaki, Greek french fries, pastries, local beer and wine, and jam out to authentic Greek music. Oh, and there will be plenty of performances by the St. Andrew’s Greek dance group, too! Don’t eat so much that you can’t participate in the jig. You don’t have to stuff yourself—instead, stop by the “agora” marketplace and pick up a few tasty treats to take home and enjoy later. Opa! For more information, go to greekfestivalslo.com.

Hayley Thomas Cain is doing a jig in anticipation. She can be reached at [email protected].
