Fresh!

Bread brothers: Brosh Sandwich Co. is finally open for business at 785 Marsh St. in downtown SLO! I am totally looking forward to trying The Oinker, which consists of marinated, slow-cooked pulled pork piled on sourdough and smothered with pepper jack cheese (see the whole drool-worthy menu at broshsandwichco.com) … SLO’s Thursday Farmers Market is undergoing a cool new makeover, friends! Over the next six months, the SLO Downtown Association will unveil improvements
—including upgraded access, infrastructure, technology, and hands-on educational experiences—all starting April 6. From 6 to 9 p.m., stop by the association’s market information booth and talk personally with Councilwoman Carlyn Christianson about the changes if you are so inclined (there are raffle and give-away offerings, too). Oh, and don’t miss the market’s new “fresh-picked” concert series featuring Damon Castillo Band (all taking place at the new “harvest stage,” located in the Union bank parking lot; visit downtownslo.com/farmers-market for more information and to plan your upgraded farmer’s market excursion).

Picnic, pretty please? Brochelle Vineyards has opened a new westside tasting room in Paso Robles (located on the corner of Vineyard Drive and Peachy Canyon). Check out their tranquil, covered porch, perfect for picnics and soaking up the warm, spring sunshine (picnics welcomed; visit brochelle.com or call 237-4410 for more information) … Did you miss the latest Paso Robles Food Cooperative hangout sesh and potluck late last month? No worries. You can still get involved in this project—which aims to bring local famers together with local shoppers under one collective roof—by subscribing to their newsletter. Check out all the good things the co-op is reaching for at pasofoodcooperative.comIl Cortile Ristorante in Paso Robles is serving up more than upscale Italian grub in quaint, downtown Paso Robles. The eatery recently raised more than $18,000 in support of local cancer resources during the recent Tour of Paso cycling Event. I, for one, think that deserves a hearty mention!

South of the grade

Spring has sprung: Ready for some fresh Roll out the Barrels experiences? Sure you are! Get on this brand-spanking-new bandwagon and check out a slew of month-long adventures across SLO Wine Country this April 6 through 30. Offerings include a live wolf demonstration at Wolf Vineyards, wine blending classes at Biddle Ranch Vineyard, and challenging blind tastings featuring the exotic, aromatic whites of Claiborne and Churchill Winery, among many, many others (click over the slowine.com for a long, colorful list of 2015 events) … The famous Madonna Inn has made it through round one of the National Trust for Historic Preservation Historic Bar Tournament (I know, you’ve never heard of it, either). Apparently, competition is fierce, but fans are cheering for the pink palace, which could become America’s favorite historic bar for 2015. How cool is that? Get in on the voting action and share your love at preservationnation.org … That’s so math! Learn to make Adventure Time cupcakes this April 10 with HoneyBee Cakery! Tickets are $25 and include a how-to for creating Finn, Jake, Beemo, and Princess Bubblegum characters (classes held at the Bunker SLO; 810 Orcutt St.; Email honeybeecakery@gmail.com to sign up).
