Fresh for fall

Music to our mouths: A celebration of Paso’s most famous resident will kick off Nov. 2 to 6 with the annual Paderewski Festival taking over ballrooms, wineries, and estates across the region. Classical piano performances, a film screening, and events at Epoch Estate Winery and Halter Ranch Winery will blend the world-renowned pianist’s two great loves: wine and music (find out more at paderewskifest.comHarvest Festival on the Coast will swing into action in SLO Wine Country this Nov. 4 to 6 with winemaker dinners, tastings, tours, an auction, and more (plus, if you book a hotel stay in Avila Beach you’ll get $20 off grand tasting tickets; go to for a full schedule of awesome cork poppin’ events) … a friend of mine recently let me in on an amazing secret that will surely change how I do my holiday baking. Take one box of pretty much any Betty Crocker cake mix, add two eggs, a half cup of oil, and goodies like chocolate chips or nuts. Bake and watch for a slight browning along the edges. Bam. Instant moist, fluffy, never-flat cookies!

Baby it’s cold outside

Brrr: When the chill creeps in, nothing warms quite like a hot cocktail spiked with something strong! Eureka Burger in downtown SLO is upping their cocktail game with a Hot Buttered Rum drink featuring white rum, cinnamon stick, and—of course—a pat of full-flavored butter! Try it for yourself through Nov. 23 and see if it’s worth the calories … Didn’t get enough beer during SLO Beer Week? Is that even possible? Here’s a cozy after work idea for ya: Stop by SLO Brew for a pint of their new Oktoberfest beer (served in a stein) and nosh on a plate of Brussels sprouts, bacon, sausage, and a fresh-baked pretzel alongside some seriously cheesy fondue. Mmmmm! … Puffer’s of Pismo has got the “intimate” vibe down pat. Drop in for local wine, beer, and music performed by guys and gals you’ve probably seen at the grocery store! They’ve also got a small “sips and snacks” menu, too! (Follow @puffersofpismo on Instagram to see what’s next).

Did ya hear?

Transformation on tap: About two months ago, Creekside Brewing Co. quietly became Metro Brewing Co., and they’re now serving up exotic beers you may not normally see in SLO Town alongside creative cocktails and local wines. Of course, they’ve still got their 13-barrel on-site brewing system to play with, too, and I, for one, am excited to see what they do with it! Check out what’s new on tap, including comedy and open mic nights, at the new Metro Brewing, located at 1040 Broad St. (check their Facebook for the latest news).
