On Veterans Day, while almost all of America was patriotically honoring our nation’s valiant veterans, one conservative energy consortium, the American Coalition for Clean Coal Electricity (ACCCE), willfully and irreverently dishonored our veterans and shamed themselves. ACCCE distributed an e-mail that said, “We wanted to take a moment to reflect on all the military personnel who are involved in ensuring our country is protected. ... Energy security is one issue that has become
increasingly important to our veterans. In fact, national veterans’ groups VoteVet and Operation Free are urging the government to become more energy independent and less reliant on foreign oil. ... We can do this by using the abundant domestic fuels we already have.”
These statements are bald-faced lies. VoteVets says it has never advocated the use of more carbon-based fuels, and Operation Free is dedicated to fighting those denying climate change. The ACCCE simply lied and pretended these veterans’ groups’ opposition was actually support—on Veterans’ Day! This consortium of dirty coal apologists had previously sent a forged letter to Congress on National Association for the Advancement of Colored Peoples (NAACP) stationery urging votes against clean-energy legislation, and lied under oath when caught.
Keith Olbermann, the astute political commentator and public-affairs watchdog for MSNBC, nominated the ACCCE as today’s “Worst Person in the World!”
