Filling the void: Jim Grant

County officials have announced the appointment of an interim county administrative officer to replace David Edge, who was dismissed during a board of supervisors meeting May 19. A 29-year veteran with the county, Jim Grant will fill in for the next three to six months, according to a release from the county. 0fficials could not confirm his salary as of press time. Supervisor Katcho Achadijan noted that the beauty in hiring Grant is that he already knows the budget inside and out.

“I worked with Jim since about 1999, until he retired,” Achadijan said of
Grant, “and to me, he’s always been Gentleman Jim.”

Achadijan said Grant will help the board in dealing with its budget crisis and board initiatives.

Grant held the position of assistant county administrative officer—a position similar to the one Gail Wilcox holds—for eight years prior to his retirement in 2006 and has since worked as a consultant to the county and Sheriff’s Department. Wilcox was placed on paid administrative leave May 11, days after Edge was placed on leave. Achadijan said that the situation that led to Edge’s expulsion and Wilcox’s leave is still being investigated.
