March 31 is Pet Adoption Day on the Central Coast. Keller Williams Realty is partnering with local animal adoption agencies and Farm Supply stores to host an event in four cities around San Luis Obispo County. Everyone who adopts a pet will receive a free goodie bag full of treats and coupons for their new animal, and there will be raffles and prizes for everyone who comes. Adopt a new pet at one of the following locations from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.: Santa Maria Farm Supply, Arroyo Grande Farm Supply, SLO Farm Supply, or the Keller Williams Realty office in Paso Robles. Bob Montano's fifth grade class at Oceano Elementary is honoring the "Cesar Chavez Day of Service Learning" by holding a book drive for the children of farm laborers. The students will be collecting new and nearly new books in both Spanish and English through April 17. Books can be sent to Oceano Elementary, located at 1551 17th Street in Oceano, CA 93445, or by calling 747-3800.

SLO Regional Transit got a lot greener with the arrival of a new hybrid electric bus for the South County. The bus emits fewer emissions than standard models and features GPS technology that makes announcements to passengers and riders waiting at stops. The Earth Day Alliance is seeking sponsors, volunteers, and exhibitors for an annual Earth Day celebration in SLO. Volunteers are needed for a variety of positions, including pre-event fundraising. This year's theme is "Climate Change: Be the Solution."
